There are lots of different books for children, but only very few are able to keep attracting and touching readers more than 70 years after their publication date. One of those is Ferdinand the bull. Munro Leaf’s text was released during the Spanish Civil War as a beautiful support to peace.
The illustrations of this edition came quite later: their author, Werner Klemke, was awarded thanks to them with the Golden Apple Prize of Bratislava Biennial.
Years went by and Ferdinand the bull, the one who preferred to smell the flowers beneath a holm oak instead of rivaling other bulls in ferocity, maintains not only a high quality regarding their beautiful poetry and plasticity, but it is also a current issue.
